Hyaluronic acid oligosaccharides synthesis

Biosynthetic studies on the formation of hyaluronic acid have yielded less information than have similar studies about the structure of chondroitin. Addition to small, well defined oligosaccharides has not been found. Using labelled nucleoside 5 -glycosyl diphosphates in a bacterial system, evidence has been obtained for the synthesis of hyaluronic acid of high molecular... [Pg.204]

Prehm (1983a) also explored the release of hyaluronate from the membranes and showed the phosphate esters prevented shedding of hyaluronate chains during active synthesis, but not under conditions where synthesis could not proceed. Oligosaccharides from hyaluronic acid would not displace it from membrane-bound synthetase, but it was released by trypsin or detergents. Hyaluronate chains appeared to be released randomly during synthesis and there was a continuous initiation of new chains even after two hours of incubation of membranes. [Pg.207]

The synthesis of hyaluronate lyase by a group A Streptococcus type 4 was enhanced by an infusion of trypsinized veal in the presence of oligosaccharides derived from hyaluronic acid. The purified enzyme (mol. wt. 5—7 x 10, pH optimum 6.0) gave a single band on polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis in the presence of... [Pg.412]
