Hyaluronan in Ophthalmology

The vitreous body of the eye largely consists of HA produced by the cornea cells. Due to the viscoelastic properties of hyaluronan, the vitreous body assures permanent intraocular pressure and prevents detachment or retina and pigment epithelium. [Pg.176]

Several formulations of HA solutions with amino acids, antioxidants and other compounds have been developed. They can be presoibed for eyeball irrigation, or injection into the eye s anterior chamber during cataract surgery [61,75,76]. The products of the Hyalrepair line could be very useful for such purposes as well. [Pg.176]
