Hunting morality

Arnold Hunt, Moral Panic and Moral Language in the Media , British Journal of Sociology 48/4 (1997). [Pg.243]

Many hunters are concerned citizens who work for the maintenance of abundant and healthy wildlife. In a free society, their historical right to hunt must never be denied by anti-hunting activists with different moral values. [Pg.63]

In this chapter, various statistical issues to do with safety of pharmaceuticals will be addressed. The field is extremely large and not all possible issues will be addressed. Instead, some typical problems will be covered. The subject is extremely important. Safety issues can cause drugs to be abandoned and companies to fail. If there are problems with a drug, then the sooner they are discovered the better. But it is also the case that some drugs have been lost through witch-hunts, and occasionally such persecutions have been justified by fraudulent research. Either way, the moral to the sponsor is know your drug . [Pg.384]

This study goes beyond much of the earlier research and— following the approach of Hunt and Habeck (1993) and Hunt et al. (1993)—seeks to estimate the role of HRM practices in the determination of workers compensation costs in a multivariate framework. It uses a workplace safety model that incorporates a wider variety of HRM practices than has been previously employed. In particular, it analyzes the impact of the three important dimensions of HRM practices on safety employee participation in decision making, employee participation in financial returns, and the firm s management safety culture. In addition, this is the first study to consider file effect of each of these factors on claim frequency and claim severity, and to ask whether any observed change is file result of changes in technical efficiency or moral hazard (principal-agent) incentives. [Pg.27]
