Household and Cleaning Purposes

The production of detergents has continually increased in recent decades. The reasons for this include not only the modern washing processes, but also the increase [Pg.172]

The table which follows shows the composition of high-grade heavy-duty detergents. [Pg.173]

Mixtures of alkylbenzenesulfonates, fatty alcohol ethoxylates or alkylphenol ethoxylates, soap Sodium triphosphate Sodium aluminium silicate (zeolite) [Pg.173]

Sodium perborate Sodium silicate Magnesium silicate Carboxymethylcellulose Optical brighteners Perfume Enzymes Sodium sulfate [Pg.173]

The manufacture of detergents causes little pollution of the environment. If possible, purification waters are utilised for the preparation of the detergent suspension, the so-called slurry. Dissolved detergents pass into surface waters where they are rapidly degraded. An unfavourable selection of nonionics (if these contain a high proportion of alcohols which are volatile with water vapour) can cause air pollution, which is described as a pluming effect. Separator filters purify the waste air by removing fine dust particles [57]. [Pg.173]
