Horizontal Tumbling Mills

Basically a horizontal tumbling mill is a cylinder lined on the inside with wear-resistant alloy liners. The liners are fixed to the shell by T-bolts and nuts on the outside. The cylinder is carried by hollow trunnions running side bearings at each end. [Pg.374]

Another type of miU commonly used in studies of mechanochemical processing is the planetary mUl. As implied by the name, the milling container is rotated about two separate paraUel axes in a manner analogous to the rotation of a planet around the sun. The miUing action of a planetary mill is similar to that of a conventional horizontal tumbling mUl. However, the velocity of the grinding media is not limited by centrifugal forces. [Pg.559]

The bead mill (also known as the agitated, or stirred, ball mill [22.9]) has become widely used in wet grinding of ultra-fine products such as pigments. It consists of a horizontal or vertical cylinder which is largely filled with glass beads. A rotating shaft along the axis of the cylinder is fitted with pins, or other protrusions, which cause the beads to tumble. The beads are retained in the cylinder by a screen at one or both ends. [Pg.238]

Ball mill is a grinding machine, consisting of a short horizontal rotating cylinder charged with steel balls. The material to be milled is fed into one end of the cylinder, broken between the tumbling balls, and emerges in a finely divided form from the other end of the mill. [Pg.405]

Tumbling ball mills are the simplest ball mills, consisting of a relatively slow rotating horizontal cylinder that is partly filled with milling balls and the particles to be ground. Besides the factors discussed above, the speed of rotation of the mill is an important parameter, because it determines the trajectory of the balls and the... [Pg.108]
