Horizontal head

The spinning rotor of a horizontal-head centrifuge offers considerable resistance to rotation and generates heat as a result of air friction. This resistance is lessened if the swinging buckets are enclosed in a windshield. 

Where underground mining is employed, the workings seldom extend to more than 120 ft below ground, the clay being hauled directly to the surface by mechanical excavator. No horizontal headings radiate from the central shaft, as they do in coal mining. 

Doorjamb, interior- The surrounding case into which and out of which a door closes and opens. It consists of two upright pieces, called side jambs, and a horizontal head jamb. These 3 jambs have the "door stop" installed on them.

Figure 7 shows nozzle locations and support arrangements for a typical horizontal vessel (7). The saddles used for support are sustained by concrete pedestals or steel stmctures. Sufficient clearance between the bottom nozzles and the support saddles needs to be provided for access to the nozzle flange bolts. The manway can be located on the end head of the vessel, the topside of the vessel, or the side of the vessel. The preference is for an end manway wherever possible for accessibiHty, except when it is limited by the level gauges and controls that are commonly mounted off the heads. 

The heating surface usually determines the evaporator cost and the vapor head the space requirements. The vapor—Hquid separator must have enough horizontal plan area to allow the bulk of the initial entrainment to settle back against the rising flow of vapor and enough height to smooth out variations ia vapor velocity and to prevent splashing directly iato the vapor outlet. Separators are usually sized on the basis of the Souders-Brown expression ... 

A partially filled horizontal tank requires the determination of the partial volume of the heads. The Lnkens catalog gives approximate volumes for partially filled (axis horizontal) standard ASME and ellipsoidal heads. A formula for partially filled heads, by Doolittle [Ind.

Fair s method may also be modified to design forced-recirculation reboilers with horizontal tubes. In this case the hydrostatic-head-pressure effect through the tubes is zero but must be considered in the two-phase return Tines to the column. 

Horizontal pre.s.sure leaf filters. In these filters the leaves may be rectangular leaves which run parallel to the axis and are of varying sizes since they form chords of the shell or they may be circular or square elements parallel to the head of the shell, and aU of the same dimension. The leaves may be supported in the sheU from an independent rack, individuaUy from the shell, or from a filtrate manifold. Horizontal filters are particiilarly suited to diy-cake discharge. 

As ANSI C-37/20C and IS 8084 water under a head of 11 m through a hose of 25 mm diameter held at 3 m from the enclosure will be impinged at an angle of at least 45° from the horizontal on all sides and the entire length of the enclosure for a period of 5 minutes. No water should enter the enclosure.
