Lasix was used to excrete excess water during the last day or two before a show. This was said to be especially effective with subcutaneous water (under the skin) so a "ripped to the hone, dry, and hard" look was achieved. Lasix was also used by some to lose weight for weight class oriented sports.

On exposure of the Hb solution to oxygen, the hone complex (deoxy type) forms its oxygen adduct (oxy type) [Eq. (1)] and turns brilliant red. 1 mol Hb binds 4 mol oxygen, i.e. 1 g of Hb adsorbs 1.34 ml of oxygen at 37 °C under oxygen atmosphere. 100 ml of the blood of human adults uptakes 23 ml of oxygen, which is about 10 times of the volume physically uptaken by water and serum... 

Pumice Pumice is of volcanic origin, thus an igneous rock of an amorphous nature. It often contains impurities such as feldspar and hornblende. Pumice is used as an abrasive for a diversity of purposes. It is used in the automobile body finishing industry in the form of hone gangs for rubbing down rough stuff on automobile bodies. In powder form it is used with water for rubbing paint and varnish (Jacobs 1928). 

Chemical deflashing using solvents to remove the flash from such components is also used. Additionally, water honing jet deflashing has been found successful for some types of devices.
