Honey in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Corticosteroids are some of the most important drugs used in the treatment of patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Intrarectal administration of corticosteroids is used in order to obtain topical action of these drugs and thus to reduce adverse systemic side effects. 

Bilsel et al. (2002) reported that honey was as effective as prednisolone in the treatment of colitis.
