HOMO manifold

PVAc is a thermoplastic polymer due to the manifold variations (homo- or copolymerizate, unmodified or modified, with or without plasticizers) it shows a great variety of processing and bonding propeities. In thiophene, the 7t-orbital manifold comprises the HOMO la2 (tts) describing C(2)-C(3) bonds, the 2bi(7t2) orbital related to the 3p sulfur lone pair, and the deep Ibi(iti) orbital describing the bonding of all the ring atoms. Among the unoccupied orbitals are two antibonding 7t-orbitals rt 4(bi) and p s(a2). The rt-orbital system of the chlorothio-phenes is closely analogous there are three occupied molecular orbitals, 4a"(%), 3a"(Jt2), and la"(Jti), and two unoccupied 7t (a") orbitals. [Pg.640]

Copper The daily intake from food is 0.8—2.0 mg it is released into the portal vein via copper-transporting ATPase. The transport of copper, which is toxic in its free form, is effected by the binding to ceruloplasmin, albumin and transcuprin. The Bradsher reaction is formally a [4 + 2] Diels-Alder reaction. However, as a consequence of the aza cationic nature of the diene, this reaction proceeds by the inverse electron demand manifold. The classical Diels-Alder reaction employs the partnering of an electron-rich diene and an electron-deficient dienophile to provide the proper interaction of the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) as prescribed by frontier molecular orbital theory (FMO) to generate the observed adducts. Thus FMO theory interprets this reaction proceeding via the HOMO of the diene with the LUMO of the dienophile. In the case of the inverse electron demand reaction, the electronics of the reaction are inverted. Therefore, in the Bradsher reaction, the electron-deficient aza cation diene s LUMO interacts with the HOMO of an electron rich dienophile. This mechanistic pathway provided a rationalization for the lack of reactivity of the electron-deficient tetracyanoethylene (TCNE), while electron-rich styrenes afforded the predicted product from reaction of 1 to generate 2. ... [Pg.237]
