Homidium salts

A few quaternary salts have been found to be valuable in the treatment of try-ponosomiasis. These include metamidium (39), homidium (40), pyrithidium (41) and quinapyramine (42) [44]. [Pg.473]

Under carefully controlled conditions the diazonium salt (358) was coupled with homidium chloride (360) to give the trypanocide isometamidium (361) Scheme 5.82.) [485, 486], Isometamidium chloride is exceptionally potent against Trypanosoma congolense [482], Its pharmacology has been reviewed [487],... [Pg.274]

For the trypanosomiasis of quadrapeds, that causes such large economic loss in Central Africa, a single injection of an aminophenanthridinium salt can effect a cure, in horses, cattle, and camels (Browning a/., 1938 Carmichael and Bell, 1944). [See the review by Walls (1951) who did the first syntheses, and maintained interest in phenanthridines during a long period of neglect.] Homidium 10.23), better known under its trade-name Ethidium , seems the best of these phenanthridine trypanocides. Quinapyramine (7f .29) is used as a prophylactic (Wilson, 1949). For more on trypanosomiasis, see Sections 1.1 (p.9) and 10.3.5. [Pg.230]
