Unfortunately, the experimental data cannot be correlated directly with the crystal structure, because some of the information needed is lost in recording the X-ray intensity pattern. Indeed, the diffracted X-ray beam is a vector, and it has both an intensity and a phase angle. The information concerning phase angle is lost during measurement of the X-ray intensity. The phase angle could, perhaps, be recorded by a holographic method, but X-ray lasers do not as yet exist. [Pg.54]

Another peculiar quality of holograms is that because the hologram records a set of interference patterns, this pattern is distributed equally and ubiquitously throughout the holographic plate, such that any part of... [Pg.35]

Visual comparison of the holographically recorded radiation pattern of a particle with Mie theory has also been used for particle sizing [71]. Holography has also been used to locate sub-micron particles in a 3-dimensional volume [72] and, in conjunction with an image analyzing computer, to size the droplets in sprays [73]. [Pg.536]
