Phase Materials. Phase holograms can be recorded in a large variety of materials, the most popular of which are dichromated gelatin, photopolymers, thermoplastic materials, and photorefractive crystals. Dichromated gelatin and some photopolymers require wet processing, and thermoplastic materials require heat processing. Photorefractive crystals are unique in that they are considered to be real-time materials and require no after-exposure processing. [Pg.160]

Another important optical phenomena that relies on light interference and diffraction is holography, the process by which holograms (interference patterns) are produced. Whilst holograms are best known for the reproduction of near perfect 3D images of an object in the graphic arts, they also find apphcations in newer areas such as laser eye protection, LCDs, diffractive optical elements, optical processing... [Pg.329]

It is also possible to digitally record or compute the data required for a diffracting structure and then uses this data to produce relief holograms, usually via a photolithographic process. [Pg.331]

According to the above considerations if the optimization is performed under fixed process parameters the initial step in library design is finished, i.e. the catalysts of the initial library can be introduced into the experimental hologram. However, it is strongly recommended to include one or two process parameters into the library design procedure. Reaction temperature and hydrogen pressure is the two most important process parameters influencing both the activity and the reactivity. [Pg.308]

Besides the direct electrical induction of electro-optical effects in liquid crystals, their activation by illumination of photoconductors could be of great technical interest. This method might well permit the electro-optical properties of nematic liquid crystals to be used on a larger scale, because photoconductor activation may eventually be applied to light amplification, optical data processing, and projection display systems, or used for recording phase-type holograms. [Pg.126]

Photochemical methods for hologram recording are very similar to the ones mentioned above. Excellent holographic parameters were obtained for polydiacetylenes [173, 174]. A diffraction efficiency of up to 40% for a spatial frequency of 1600 mm 1 and with a sensitivity of 5 cm2 J-1 was realized. Such a medium may be used in optical processing. [Pg.81]
