Isaac of Holland and a countryman of the same name, probably his son, are said to have been the first Dutch alchemists. Wharton, the eighteenth century editor of Jonson s works, remarks on this passage, The poet alludes to the two famous chemists, Isaac and John Isaac Ilolhindus, who flourished about that time and wrote several treatises on alchemy. Ben Jonson is also known to have himself spent some time in Holland previous to 1610.

Also known as John Isaac Holland, almost nothing is known about him. His work Of Natural and Supernatural Things was published in London in 1670, and stresses the importance of Saturn in the work. In psychological terms, it could be interpreted that he knew of the immense transformative power of negative experiences. 

There are a number of mineral and metallic salts which have a long association with the alchemical art. The fifteenth century alchemist, Isaac Holland describes The Hand of the Philosophers as being an assembly of important salts in alchemical works. These salts include Niter (potassium nitrate), Sal Ammoniac (ammonium chloride), Vitriol (copper or iron sulfate), Alum (potassium aluminum sulfate), and common salt (sodium chloride). 

Isaac Holland describes the work on Lead Acetate, in "Opus Satumi" or "A Work of Saturn." He begins here with an already pure lead acetate—purified Saturn. The same method of preparation can be applied to other mineral and metal acetates ...
