Hole transport layers, injection currents

According to that model, the net current flow in the device therefore can be increased in bilayer structures using a hole-transport layer, which possess higher hole mobility than the active polymer layer and which changes the height of the potential barrier at the interface transport layer/hole injection contact [81],... [Pg.473]

Fig. 11 shows the photoswitching of the injection current. Upon UV irradiation, the hole injection current increased, while decreasing to zero on irradiation with visible light. Very thin amorphous diarylethene film as thin as 0.2 pm could also control the hole injection to the organic hole transport layer (Fig. 9b). These results are potentially applicable to optical memory-type organic photoconductors. Fig. 11 shows the photoswitching of the injection current. The /3-diketonate [Nd(dbm)3bath] (see figs. 41 and 117) has a photoluminescence quantum efficiency of 0.33% in dmso-7r, solution at a 1 mM concentration. It has been introduced as the active 20-nm thick layer into an OLED having an ITO electrode with a sheet resistance of 40 il cm-2, TPD as hole transporting layer with a thickness of 40 nm, and bathocuproine (BCP) (40 nm) as the electron injection and transporting layer (see fig. 117). The electroluminescence spectrum is identical to the photoluminescence emission the luminescence intensity at 1.07 pm versus current density curve deviates from linearity from approximately 10 mA cm-2 on, due to triplet-triplet annihilation. Near-IR electroluminescent efficiency <2el has been determined by comparison with [Eu(dbm)3bath] for which the total photoluminescence quantum yield in dmso-tig at a concentration of 1 mM is Dpi, = 6% upon ligand excitation, while its external electroluminescence efficiency is 0.14% (3.2 cdm-2 at 1 mAcm-2) ... [Pg.416]

A polymer layer al a contact can enhance current How by serving as a transport layer. The transport layer could have an increased carrier mobility or a reduced Schottky barrier. For example, consider an electron-only device made from the two-polymer-layer structure in the top panel of Figure 11-13 but using an electron contact on the left with a 0.5 eV injection barrier and a hole contact on the right with a 1.2 cV injection barrier. For this case the electron current is contact limited and thermionic emission is the dominant injection mechanism for a bias less than about 20 V. The electron density near the electron injecting contact is therefore given by... [Pg.505]
