The second situation is just as common as the first it is the one you are dealing with here. You have 14 work days. Team members expect to be able to put about 2 hours a day into the project. You have five team members. So the maximum amount of work is estimated as 140 hours. In a moment you will be guessing times required for your activities. A useful rule here is the first law of Hofstadter it tells you that any activity will take longer than you expect (Figure N2-5). It suggests that you should include a wide safety margin for activities in which you have little experience. 

The second law of Hofstadter reads It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter s law . Very helpful, indeed ...
