Extenders (fillers) are substances in powder form that are practically insoluble in the medium in which they are appUed. They are usually white or sUghtly colored, and are used on account of their physical or chemical properties. The distinction between an extender and a pigment Ues in the purpose for which it is used. An extender is not a colorant, it is employed to modify the properties or increase the bulk (volume) of a given material. Extenders are beyond the scope of this book and wiU not be discussed in detail. [Pg.1]

The Society has a history of collaboration and outreach. The OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (HCS), 29 CFR 1910.1200, was published in 1983. Shortly thereafter, SCHC and OSHA collaborated to educate stakeholders on the new HCS. Jointly sponsored seminars were held on a regional basis with both OSHA and SCHC participating to inform both members and stakeholders about the HCS. Recently, SCHC and OSHA have signed an alliance to provide information and training on hazard communication, MSDSs, and the new GHS of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals. This alliance is another step in the longstanding relationship between SCHC and OSHA to promote effective hazard communication. [Pg.2957]

The third major section of the guidelines is the classification of clinical pharmacy services as a number of discrete activities. A goal for each activity is stated and then a recommended procedure outlines the major generic components of the activity. The activities were presented in an order that is somewhat reflective of the provision of these services. The Standard provides direction on which activities should be performed routinely. This is reflected in statements relating to medication history interview, the monitoring of drug therapy, and the provision of medication counseling. [Pg.171]

The grading and classification of base fibers such as jute and kenaf for commercial purposes has a long history, but is still done subjectively by hand and eye. Official standards have been formulated, but these are purely descriptive and no quantitative values are assigned to the... [Pg.421]
