In retrospect, the catalytic reaction following eq. (1) has promoted recognition of organometallic homogeneous catalysis in the bulk-chemicals industry both hydroformylation (Section 2.1.1) and the Wacker ethylene oxidation are key steps in industrial homogeneous catalysis.

Wool. American Wool Handbook. A Practical Text and Reference Book for the Entire Wool Industry well describes this useful volume by Werner Von Bergen and Herbert R. Mauersberger. The second edition, published in 1948, includes chapters on historical and economic background, sheep breeds and raising, specialty fibers, physical and chemical properties of wool, chemical and mechanical processing, testing, and bibliographies (115). 

Chapter 11 presents an overview of the agrochemical industry. Beginning with the introduction and historical background, it leads to the modern trends in agriculture, chemical pest control, herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, and biological pest control agents. Social and economic aspects of pesticides use are also discussed. 

Harris was interested in the questions of technical hydraulics, practical hydrodynamics and engineering economics. He published mainly in the Bulletins of the Engineering Experiment Station of Washington University, with a particular emphasis on weir and orifice flows. He also considered the effect of pipe thickness on the intake losses, a topic that received increased interest as larger hydraulic schemes were erected. He further presented three books in hydraulics, namely the Fimdamentals, and two editions of Hydraulics. The 1936 edition is described as The object of this book is to present the various principles of hydraulics in the relationship most commonly encoimtered in engineering practice. Earnest effort is made not only to promote the wholesome respect for a scientific and historic background, but also to encourage ample consideration of the needs of modem industry .
