Medical Devices. Pneumatics is being used more in medical devices. When the dentist, drill or pohsher in hand, steps on a small plate, a pneumatic system is activated that drives the instrument in a circular motion at a very high speed. Pneumatic systems are excellent for applications in patient ventilators. Ventilators can either take over breathing for an extremely sick patient or assist a patient with some breathing ability. [Pg.1504]

The main power source is a 2,200 kW rated motor, which drives two high-speed pinions through integral gears. The first stage of the compressor operates at 17,900 rpm, while the second and third stages operate at 21,800 rpm. The unit is controlled by a local control system, but operators can also monitor the operating parameters from the plant control room. [Pg.464]

Power transmission chains provide a positive drive even when operated under very adverse temperatures (-60 to 600°F) and other environmental conditions. These pow er transmission systems are very flexible with regards to their field applications. In general, chain drives are primarily selected for low-speed and medium-speed service. Some silent chain designs may be used in high-speed serv ice [8,13]. [Pg.429]

The power train on the extruder was also limiting the rate of the process. The extruder was driven by a 190 kW motor with a maximum speed of 1750 rpm and a maximum current of 262 A. The motor was directly coupled to a gearbox with a ratio of 13.91, providing a maximum screw speed of 125 rpm. The maximum torque available to the screw from the drive system was 14,200 Nm. As will be shown later, this gearbox-motor combination did not provide a high enough torque to the screw for this process. [Pg.614]

Frontier Carbon Corporation s high output manufacturing has enabled it to sell this exotic carbon product at very reasonable prices. The lowered costs will drive industrial uses. Frontier Carbon is a joint venture between Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation and Nanotech Partners. It was the first firm to create industrial quantities of fullerenes. It was launched with a manufacturing capacity of 40 tons of fullerenes yearly, using the brand name Nanom. The secret to Frontier s success is a combustion method that it developed for the high-speed production of fullerenes. This cost-effective process is continuous, with a constant stream of fullerenes exiting the system. [Pg.47]

Adjustable Roil The dancer rolls, canvas drag brakes, various pony brakes, and pneumatically operated brakes are manual adjustment systems. The most expensive would be the regenerative drive systems. The transducer rolls and dancer rolls would be a close second. These systems are usually required in high web speed applications where accurate tension control of expensive and/or sensitive material is paramount. With roll windup systems different roll or reel-change systems are used to keep the lines running at their constant high speeds. [Pg.562]
