Heuristic variants

Over the years, the heuristics of the early works on MFC were complemented by rigorous analysis that elucidated the essential features, properties, advantages, and limitations of MFC. In the next section, we will start with a smooth introduction to a simple (if not limiting) MFC formulation that was popular in the early days of MFC. We will then identify some of its many variants. 

So far, many of the lupus-associated alleles identified exert weak effects (Table 1). Many variants of the heuristic and gradient methods were proposed in 1950s. The perplexing thing about this pioneering period was that all programs proposed were ineffective in solving many practical problems.

For the last few decades, research on VRP has attracted a lot of attention along with traveling salesman problem which is similar to VRP in many ways. However, the research on TTRP is relatively scarce. Most people treat TTRP as a variant of VRP and had not given it a name until 2002 when Chao (2002) first named such a problem as TTRP and used a tabu search heuristic to solve 21 TTRPs adapted firom the classical 7 VRPs of Christofides et al. (1979). Since then, this topic draws increasing notice and many more heuristics and metaheuristics were developed to solve this problem. 

Specialized genetic operators here consist of multimode mutation and two different variants of crossover. The first crossover is a heuristic modification of the two-point crossover the second crossover operator seeks to combine the general characteristics of the parental individuals with the qualities of the best known solution. 

For the architecture search by means of cross-validation, only data about catalysts from the first to the sixth generation of the genetic algorithm and about the 52 catalysts with manually designed composition were employed, thus altogether data about 604 catalytic materials. Data about catalysts from the seventh generation were completely excluded and left out for vaUdating the search results. To use as much information as possible from the employed data, cross-validation was applied as the extreme 604-fold variant, i.e., leave-one-out validation.
