Herbage seed

Synonym Compitox, Duplosan, Hedonal, Iso-Cornox, Kilprop, MCPP, Mecopex, Mepro, Methoxone, Propal Chemical Name ( )-2-(4-chloro-2-methylphenoxy)propanoic acid ( )-2-(4-chloro-otolyl-oxy)propionic acid Uses herbicide for post-emergence control of broadleaf weeds in wheat, barley, rye, herbage seed crops, grassland, and under fruit trees and vines, etc. [Pg.401]

All herbage seed production in the UK is overseen by FERA and NIAB. Only Basic seed is used for Cl generation production (termed CS). In some cases it is permitted for seed crops to be taken from the same crop for two seasons, but no C2 generation multiplication is pernritted. All seed crops are inspected at around the time of ear emergence to estabUsh variety type and to check for off-types, weeds and isolation. Standards for varietal purity are quite high and in the case of Basic seed only one off-type is allowed per 30 square metres. In the case of CS seed the standard is one per 10 square metres. [Pg.281]

Red clover. The USA and Canada are the main world centres of production of red clover seed. Only very small areas have been sown for seed in the UK in recent years, but the substantial increase in interest in this legitme as well as the improved varieties being introduced, has created new opportunities for herbage seed producers and about 150 hectares were grown in 2012. [Pg.282]

Copper is widely distributed in foods, and imder normal conditions the diet of farm animals is likely to contain adequate amoimts. The copper content of crops is related to some extent to the soil copper level, but it is also affected by other factors such as drainage conditions and the herbage species. Seeds and seed by-products are usually rich in copper, but straws contain little. The normal copper content of pasture ranges from about 4 mg/kg to 8 mg/kg DM.The copper content of milk is low, and hence it is customary when dosing young animals, especially piglets, with an iron salt to include a trace of copper sulphate. [Pg.124]
