Cl-988 has been found to reduce the behavioral stress in marmosets exposed to a human threat [Hughes et al. 1990]. L-365,260 can antagonize the behavioral effects of exposition to the odor of a cat in rats and suppress the behavioral reaction of mice to the calls of an owl, an effect also found with LY 288513 (Hendrie and Dourish 1994]. Thus, evidence suggests an anxiolytic activity of CCK-B antagonists. The activity seems more evident in etho-logically based models of anxiety than in conflict-based tests and does not follow a linear dose-dependent relationship but rather a bell-curve one. Also, most studies point to a selectivity of CCK-B antagonists, but not CCK-A antagonists, for anxiolytic effects. [Pg.435]

A general review on distillation synthesis can be found in Westerberg (1985) and Floquet et ai. (1988). The synthesis of simple separation sequences based on heuristics is fairly well developed. Enumeration search methods (dynamic programming, branch-and-bound) have been proposed by Hendry and Hughes (1972) and Gomez-Munoz and Seader (1985), while evolutionary search procedures have been described by Stephanopoulos and Westerberg (1976), Seader and Westerberg (1977) and Nath and Motard (1981). [Pg.176]

Knowledge of the biosynthesis of bark beetle pheromones has been largely conjectural, based on simple metabolic pathways from host terpenes. However, the biosynthetic routes of the pheromone components of 7. paracon-fusus are now known (Fig. 12.3). Both sexes produced m-verbenol when exposed to (-)ff-pinene (Renwick et al., 1976), and tran -verbenol from (+)a-pinene. When exposed to the vapour of myrcene, ipsdienol and ipsenol appeared in the hindguts of male beetles, but not in females (Hughes, 1974 Hughes and Renwick, 1977 Byers et al., 1979), whereas no pheromone was detected in the guts of beetles not exposed to myrcene. Deuterium-labelling techniques have now confirmed that myrcene is converted in male I. para-confusus to ipsdienol and ipsenol (Hendry et al., 1980). Thus, all three known pheromone components are obtained by simple oxidation of host plant chemicals. [Pg.339]
