Heartfulness practice

One of the most challenging aspects of a heartfulness practice is forgiveness. Intuitively, we know that holding on to bitterness or resentment only extends the harm of the original injury. We know that it s in our own best interest to forgive another, but somehow we just can t. Sometimes it seems to me that the more painful is the wound, the more tightly we hold on to it. [Pg.245]

Most iron salts and compounds may be safely handled following common safe laboratory practices. Some compounds are irritants. A more serious threat is ingestion of massive quantities of iron salts which results in diarrhea, hemorrhage, fiver damage, heart damage, and shock. A lethal dose is 200 250 mg/kg of body weight. The majority of the victims of iron poisoning are children under five years of age. [Pg.444]

Toxicity. The toxicity of barium compounds depends on solubility (47—49). The free ion is readily absorbed from the lung and gastrointestinal tract. The mammalian intestinal mucosa is highly permeable to Ba " ions and is involved in the rapid flow of soluble barium salts into the blood. Barium is also deposited in the muscles where it remains for the first 30 h and then is slowly removed from the site (50). Very Httle is retained by the fiver, kidneys, or spleen and practically none by the brain, heart, and hair. [Pg.483]

The Shawinigan process uses a unique reactor system (36,37). The heart of the process is the fluohmic furnace, a fluidized bed of carbon heated to 1350—1650°C by passing an electric current between carbon electrodes immersed in the bed. Feed gas is ammonia and a hydrocarbon, preferably propane. High yield and high concentration of hydrogen cyanide in the off gas are achieved. This process is presently practiced in Spain, AustraUa, and South Africa. [Pg.377]

Indications for treatment with streptokinase include acute occlusion of arteries, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism. Streptokinase therapy in coronary thrombosis, which is the usual cause of myocardial infarction (54,71,72), has proved to be valuable. In this frequently fatal condition, the enzyme is adrninistered intravenously at a dose of 1.5 million units over 60 min, or given by intracoronary infusion at a 20,000- to 50,000-unit bolus dose followed by 2000 to 4000 units/min for 60 min therapy must be instituted as soon as practicable after the diagnosis of heart attack is made. For deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, or arterial occlusion, streptokinase is infused at a loading dose of 250,000 units given over 30 min, followed by a maintenance dose of 100,000 units over a 60-min period. [Pg.309]

There has been an increase in the use of cadaveric heart valves for patients with valvular defects. The valves are best stored by freezing but some success has been achieved by simple cold storage in an antibiotic medium made up of ingredients common to most tissue culture solutions. At a storage temperature of 4 °C there is a continual loss of viability of fibroblasts so that by three weeks there are practically no viable cells and the valves cannot be used. [Pg.393]

It is a truism that in the past decade density functional theory has made its way from a peripheral position in quantum chemistry to center stage. Of course the often excellent accuracy of the DFT based methods has provided the primary driving force of this development. When one adds to this the computational economy of the calculations, the choice for DFT appears natural and practical. So DFT has conquered the rational minds of the quantum chemists and computational chemists, but has it also won their hearts To many, the success of DFT appeared somewhat miraculous, and maybe even unjust and unjustified. Unjust in view of the easy achievement of accuracy that was so hard to come by in the wave function based methods. And unjustified it appeared to those who doubted the soundness of the theoretical foundations. There has been misunderstanding concerning the status of the one-determinantal approach of Kohn and Sham, which superficially appeared to preclude the incorporation of correlation effects. There has been uneasiness about the molecular orbitals of the Kohn-Sham model, which chemists used qualitatively as they always have used orbitals but which in the physics literature were sometimes denoted as mathematical constructs devoid of physical (let alone chemical) meaning. [Pg.5]
