The electrodes described in the second paper [71 ] also show a Nernstian deviation of -58.3 0.7 mV/decade to -60.9 0.7 mV/decade, but a lower detection limit of 3.0 x 10". The selectivity coefficients for acetate, oxalate, citrate and sulfate ions are respectively lower than for the electrode containing an associative complex of ibuprofen with methyltrioctylammonium cation. The electrodes also show a longer lifetime (approx. 12 months). The electrode [71] was applied for determination of ibuprofen in drug samples (Ibuprofen - tablets, Polfa, Pabianice, Poland Nurofen Forte Express - Reckitt Benckiser Healthcare International Ltd., Great Britain) with accuracy of 0.5-2.6% and high precision (RSD Q.7-5.5%). 

Another well-known example, a four-coordinate square-planar complex of dichlorodiammineplatinum(II), also shows how the cisitrans isomerism is important for biochemical processes (Figure 1.11). The cw-isomer is used as a drug to treat brain tumors, under the trade name Cis-platin, and currently is marketed by Cadila Healthcare (Ahmedabad, India). This square-planar cA-Pt(NH3)2Cl2 complex inserts itself into the grooves in the double-helix structure of the DNA in cells, and therefore, it inhibits the replication of DNA. By slowing the rate at which the tumor grows, it allows the body s natural defense mechanisms to act on the tumor.
