Headaches medication overuse

Preventive treatment should be considered if headache frequency is more than two per week, duration is greater than 3 to 4 hours, or severity results in medication overuse or substantial disability.

Medication overuse headaches occur when cKents take headache medication every day. These headaches are also known as rebound headaches or dmg-indnced headaches. The headache will persist for days to weeks after the medication has been discontinned. 

Abortive therapy is used to treat an actual migraine headache in an effort to limit the intensity and duration of the headache. Using the medication more than 1-2 days per week can cause medication overuse headaches (MOH).
