In order to improve the state of health and growth of domestic animals, their diet must be well balanced, therefore basic feed often needs to be enriched with respect to trace and minor elements. Such additions are made on the basis of results of analysis of the raw material, e.g. hay. A hay powder reference material has been considered necessary as being complementary to the rye grass material described in section 6.3. The EC Directive 79/373/EEC prescribes the determination of the nutrients Ca, P and Mg S and N are also important elements since they are used as indicators of the availability of proteins finally the administration of iodine to growing animals requires that this element be carefully monitored. Consequently, the hay powder CRM 129 was certified for its contents of Ca, K, Mg, P, S, Zn, I, N and Kjeldahl-N [10,11]. [Pg.248]

By passing chlorine over calcio hydrate, a compound known as chloride of Hate or Idea Hay-powder is formed. This has been supposed to consist of calcio ohloride mixed with calcio hypo chlorite, but it is more probably cable obloro-hypoohlorite, as expressed by the following formule —... [Pg.183]

About 30% of all reported results have been obtained by the different modes of AAS during the standardization of IAEA-SRM-V-10 (hay powder) (Pazonieki and Hanna, 1985), 10% of which are outliers. The elements for which results have been reported by AAS are Ag, As, Ba, Ca, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mg, Zn, Mn, Ni, Pb, Se. In the production of NIES vehicle exhaust particles 14 elements have been standardized with the participation of AAS (Okamoto, 1987). Recent investigations on the routine use of ETAAS in the analysis of soil and plant reference materials (Djingova et al., 1998) also indicate that about ten to 12 elements are determined with good accuracy and precision. [Pg.161]

Recently, Hays et al. [26] reported on of several cases where particle clustering was inferred in flnidized bed systems. In the first case, they attempted to reproduce why highly variable entrainment rates were observed in a commercial-scale fluidized bed even though steady-state was presumed. Tests were conducted in a 6 inch (15-cm) diameter fluidized column with a static bed height of 52 inches (132 cm) of the same Geldart Gronp A powder (dp5o of 55-60 microns) used in the commercial process. The test unit was operated in batch mode at a superficial gas velocity of 0.66 ft/sec (0.2 m/sec). [Pg.159]
