Haven factor

Ef corresponds to the enthalpy of formation of a defect pair Frenkel or Schottky, cf. Chapter 3). In an alkali halide, E( is typically about 3 eV implying a very low defect concentration, of the order of 10 at room temperature. E is the enthalpy of defect migration, usually several eV in dense structures, and / is the correlation or Haven factor. Its value varies between 0 and 1 and takes into account unfruitful attempts at transport in a given direction, caused by random jumps of mobile species and the particular geometry of each site. In other words, this factor takes into account the correlation effects (/ = 1 when correlations are absent). Usually / is of the order of 0.5-0.8 and plays a role in determining the transport mechanism. 

De Haven [127] gives an overview of the results of accelerating rate calorimeter (ARC) experiments. The ARC was described in Section 2.3.2.3. As mentioned in the previous description, care must be taken in scale-up of results from experiments with relatively high phi-factors. For direct simulation of plant operating conditions, a phi-factor of 1.0 to 1.05 is required. As stated in [127], a decrease in the phi-factor from 2.0 to 1.0 increases the adiabatic temperature rise by a factor of 2, but the maximum self-heat rate increases by a factor of 20. Later in Chapter 3 (Section 3.3.4.6), an example of scale-up of ARC results is given.

About 70% of the land (23 billion acres) cannot be used for food production. This land is located where it is either too cold, too dry, or too steep, or the soil is too thin (Table 2). About 10%, or 3.2 billion acres, of our best agricultural land is developed for food production. There is another 20% or 6.5 billion acres in pasture and meadow which has the potential for cultivation but at greater costs. You can see that if the 6.5 billion acres in pasture and meadows are put in cultivation, that will bring us up to 9.7 billion acres. This is an important factor if we haven t developed control of the world population by 2025-2050 AD. 

But it still seems we haven t made much progress—now we have to go back and ask what activates Stuart factor. It turns out that it can be activated by two different routes, called the intrinsic and the extrinsic pathways. In the intrinsic pathway, all the proteins required for clotting are contained in the blood plasma in the extrinsic pathway, some clotting proteins occur on cells. Let s first examine the intrinsic pathway. (Please follow along using Figure 4-3.)...

While you re there, it would be a good idea to have your cholesterol levels checked as well. Elevated cholesterol counts are not only a major risk factor for heart attack and stroke, in and of themselves, but they also predispose a person to developing hypertension.

JLubinski That is the general factor that factors into a broader array of criteria that we re interested in predicting when we talk about the concept of intelligence. To my knowledge Sternberg s creative and practical tests haven t added any incremental validity to those predictions in the full range of talent in any study that I know. 

Jensen It is all uniqueness or specificity you haven t got anything else in there that takes care of aerobic capacity, but if you had a few other things that required a lot of aerobic capacity they would form a common factor too. 

The Haven ratio may deviate from unity when correlation effects and possibly different jump distances and jump frequencies can not be neglected [51]. For a vacancy diffusion mechanism Hr equals the well-known tracer correlation factor /.
