Ternary halogen oxides

The ternary halogen oxides are mainly compounds in which a heavier X atom (Cl, Br, I) is bonded to both O and F. These compounds are called halogen oxide fluorides. The structures of the ternary halogen oxides are summarized in Fig. 17.4.1.

The overall results obtained from the HBCD mixture experiments were interpreted in terms of a catalytic effect of strong Lewis acids such as SbBr3 or BiBr3 on the degradation of the HBCD by facilitating the loss of halogen. In the polymer/oxide/DBDPO ternary mixtures the in-situ formation of these species should produce a similar effect on the halogen loss from the system. 

Second, in Rule 5, note that the -1 oxidation number for a combined halogen atom is strictly limited to binary compounds with a metal or hydrogen. Halogens found in polyatomic ions or in ternary compounds do not have an oxidation number of-1. Third, Rules 8 and 9 mentions peroxides. Bombi and co-workers.The standard potential of CUIC, which could not be determined experimentally due to the oxidation of NOg" by chlorine, was estimated. On the other hand, Delimarskii and Shilina - claimed that the halide ions were oxidized to halogens by UNO3 in the ternary eutectic. They studied the voltammetric behavior of the dissolved halogen in the melt. Irreversible cathodic waves corresponding to X2 + 2e 2X were observed, but no anodic waves.
