Heterocyclic halides

Analogous to aromatic halides, heterocyclic halides can be transformed to the corresponding fluorides by nucleophilic displacement with fluoride ions. Fluorinated heterocyclic compounds are also biologically interesting and several technical applications are also known.116... [Pg.571]

A wide class of aiyl-based quaternary surfactants derives from heterocycles such as pyridine and quinoline. The Aralkyl pyridinium halides are easily synthesized from alkyl halides, and the paraquat family, based upon the 4, 4 -bipyridine species, provides many interesting surface active species widely studied in electron donor-acceptor processes. Cationic surfactants are not particularly useful as cleansing agents, but they play a widespread role as charge control (antistatic) agents in detergency and in many coating and thin film related products. [Pg.2577]

Most syntheses of nitrogen heterocycles involve substitution and/or condensation reactions of nitrogen nucleophiles with difunctional halides or carbonyl compounds. Common nitrogen reagents are ... [Pg.147]

The use of oximes as nucleophiles can be quite perplexing in view of the fact that nitrogen or oxygen may react. Alkylation of hydroxylamines can therefore be a very complex process which is largely dependent on the steric factors associated with the educts. Reproducible and predictable results are obtained in intramolecular reactions between oximes and electrophilic carbon atoms. Amides, halides, nitriles, and ketones have been used as electrophiles, and various heterocycles such as quinazoline N-oxide, benzodiayepines, and isoxazoles have been obtained in excellent yields under appropriate reaction conditions. [Pg.307]

The cross-coupling of aromatic and heteroaromatic rings has been carried out extensively[555]. Tin compounds of heterocycles such as oxazo-lines[556,557], thiophene[558,559], furans[558], pyridines[558], and seleno-phenes [560] can be coupled with aryl halides. The syntheses of the phenylo.xazoline 691[552], dithiophenopyridine 692[56l] and 3-(2-pyridyl)qui-noline 693[562] are typical examples. [Pg.229]

Piperazinothiazoies (2) were obtained by such a replacement reaction, Cu powder being used as catalyst (25. 26). 2-Piperidinothiazoles are obtained in a similar way (Scheme 2) (27). This catalytic reaction has been postulated in the case of benzene derivatives as a nucleophilic substitution on the copper-complexed halide in which the halogen possesses a positive character by coordination (29). For heterocyclic compounds the coordination probably occurs on the ring nitrogen. [Pg.12]

Halides derived from certain heterocyclic aromatic compounds are often quite reac tive toward nucleophiles 2 Chloropyridme for example reacts with sodium methoxide some 230 million times faster than chlorobenzene at 50°C... [Pg.981]

The common impurities found in amines are nitro compounds (if prepared by reduction), the corresponding halides (if prepared from them) and the corresponding carbamate salts. Amines are dissolved in aqueous acid, the pH of the solution being at least three units below the pKg value of the base to ensure almost complete formation of the cation. They are extracted with diethyl ether to remove neutral impurities and to decompose the carbamate salts. The solution is then made strongly alkaline and the amines that separate are extracted into a suitable solvent (ether or toluene) or steam distilled. The latter process removes coloured impurities. Note that chloroform cannot be used as a solvent for primary amines because, in the presence of alkali, poisonous carbylamines (isocyanides) are formed. However, chloroform is a useful solvent for the extraction of heterocyclic bases. In this case it has the added advantage that while the extract is being freed from the chloroform most of the moisture is removed with the solvent. [Pg.63]

These authors have prepared quite a variety of crown-related esters and have incorporated numerous heterocyclic subunits in the macrorings. The structural variety can be gleaned from a perusal of the tables at the end of this chapter. Despite this variety, one basic approach has been utilized in most of the syntheses thus far presented. This method involves simultaneous addition of separate benzene solutions of the diacyl halide and diol to an additional several volumes of benzene heated at 45—60°. After the ad-... [Pg.220]

Ruonnated carboxylic anhydrides and acyl halides as common acylating reagents to convert amines to amides and to acy late suitable heterocyclic nitiogen atoms have already been described in the first edition [10] Like in the acylation at oxygen, much synthetic activity was concentrated m the past few years on the denvatization of biomolecules by fluoroacylation reactions, that is, tnfluoroacetylation of amino sugars,... [Pg.530]

Aryl bromides were also perfluoroethylated under these conditions [205] The key to improved yields was the azeotropic removal of water from the sodium perfluoroalkylcarboxylate [205] Partial success was achieved with sodium hepta-fluorobutyrate [204] Related work with halonaphthalene and anthracenes has been reported [206 207] The main limitation of this sodium perfluoroalkylcarboxylate methodology is the need for 2 to 4 equivalents of the salt to achieve reasonable yields A trifluoromethylcopper solution can be prepared by the reaction of bis(tri-fluoromethyl)mercury with copper powder in /V-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) at 140 °C [208] (equation 138) or by the reaction of N-trifluoromethyl-A-nitro-sotnfluoromethane sulfonamide with activated copper in dipolar aprotic solvents [209] This trifluoromethylcopper solution can be used to trifluoromethylate aro matic [209], benzylic [209], and heterocyclic halides [209]... [Pg.703]

Oddo reported that the organomagnesium derivatives of p3Trole, indole, skatole, and carbazole could be prepared in a single operation by mixing the parent heterocyclic compound with an alkyl halide and magnesium in anhydrous ether. The product formed was reported to be the same as that obtained by the more conventional procedure. However, this approach to the synthesis of the indole Grignard reagents does not seem to have been exploited in subsequent work. [Pg.45]

By far the commonest reagents for the formation of heterocyclic quaternary salts are the alkyl halides, and, indeed, methiodides out-... [Pg.2]

The formation of quaternary salts from benzyl halides and related compounds occurs readily and has been known for many years. More recently, Krohnke and co-workers, who have studied the reactions of many heterocyclic quaternary salts, reported the formation of 5 from pyridine and benzylidene dibromide on heating the reactants together for 1 hr at 100°. The salt is sufficiently stable to be recrystallized from methanol containing a trace of hydrogen bromide. Isoquinoline gives a similar salt. [Pg.4]
