Unscrew the upper two screws M82 and replace them by the guide bolts to carry the belt gearing while removing the other screws. Lift off the belt gearing.

In the Preface to the first edition of this book in 1996 I expressed the hope that the contents would act as a practical guide to actions that need to be taken in the day-to-day management of R D in the chemical industry a nuts and bolts of management as accurately described by one reviewer. That this proved to be the case was evidenced buy the fact that a second edition was published in 2003, in which the contents were expanded and modified to include management issues relevant to both the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

By applying a steady pressure against the bolt the nosebar takes up any slack in the mechanical system due to wear, and guides the knife in relation to the outer surface of the bolt. This helps to ensure a veneer of constant thickness.

A range of shear tests exists to satisfy all the requirements for in-plane and some throughthickness shear properties. Although torsion of tubes or rods is often recommended, it is rarely used in practice and has not been standardized. Equally, the rail shear test only appears as an ASTM guide [ASTM D 4255], It is not favored, since a large specimen is required and the test suffers from premature failure initiated at the bolt holes. Several other methods that have been standardized are discus.sed below.

For reasons of rationalization, moldmakers have decided to specialize on the contour-forming elements and purchase standardized accessory structures such as plates, bolts, guides, pins, ejectors, etc. from special manufacturers who make and sell them acc. to DIN or factory standards in series and list them in catalogs.
