Guanosine polyphosphates

GTP is an essential component in protein synthesis, and it has been shown recently that another guanosine polyphosphate, guanosine 3, 5 -... [Pg.127]

The stringent response in bacteria appears to be fundamentally an anti-GTP response with the guanosine polyphosphates mediating the stringent response having influence opposite those produced by GTP. [Pg.14]

A nucleoside consists of a purine or pyrimidine base linked to a pentose, either D-ribose to form a ribonucleo-side or 2-deoxy-D-ribose to form a deoxyribonucleoside. Three major purine bases and their corresponding ribo-nucleosides are adenine/adenosine, guanine/guanosine and hypoxanthine/inosine. The three major pyrimidines and their corresponding ribonucleosides are cytosine/ cytodine, uracil/uradine and thymine/thymidine. A nucleotide such as ATP (Fig. 17-1) is a phosphate or polyphosphate ester of a nucleoside. [Pg.303]

Higher polyphosphate derivatives of purine ribonucleosides are known. Adenosine tetraphosphate has been isolated from horse muscle the compound appears to be a 5 -polyphosphate, but the structure of the polyphosphate portion is uncertain and a biological role is unknown (25). Guanosine tetraphosphate and adenosine pentaphosphate have also been reported. [Pg.10]
