Guanidine phosphates

Uses. Dicyandiamide is used as a raw material for the manufacture of several chemicals, such as guanamines, biguanide and guanidine salts, and various resias. Siace 1975, it has also been used ia the manufacture of potassium or sodium dicyanamide which are used as iasecticides and ia chemotherapy. Melamine has extensive appHcations ia the resia and plastic iadustry guanamines are used as copolymers (qv) ia many resia compositions. Guanidine phosphate [1763-07-1] is employed as a fire retardant ia appHcations where water solubiHty is not a drawback.

Nitrogen compounds are a small but rapidly growing group of flame retardants which are in the focus of public interest concerning environmentally friendly flame retardants. Today, their main applications are melamine for polyurethane flexible foams, melamine cyanurate in nylons, melamine phosphates in polyolefins, melamine and melamine phosphates or dicyandiamide in intumescent paints, guanidine phosphates for textiles and guanidine sulfamate for wallpapers. 

Guanidine sulfamate is utilized as a flame retardant for PVC wall coverings in Japan. Guanidine phosphate is added as a flame retardant to textile fibers and mixtures based on melamine phosphate are used as flame retardants to polyolefins or glass reinforced nylons. 

The most important type of acid anhydride in biochemistry is that between two molecules of phosphoric acid, as exemplified by the two terminal bonds of ATP (p. 67), but the pyrophosphate bond is not the only type of energy-rich bond as can be seen from Table XI. Mixed anhydrides of carboxylic and phosphoric acids (acyl-phosphates), phosphorylated enol groups (enolphosphates), phosphorylated guanidine groups (guanidine phosphates), compounds of sulphhydryl groups with phosphoric or carboxylic acids (thioesters or thiophosphates), all these types of compound are energy-rich.
