Growth targets

Portfolio transformations should be centered around improving long-term ROIC rather than size, growth targets, or a mis-perceived superiority of some business segments, such as the view of specialty chemicals in the past. 

One of innovation s misconceptions is that the more ideas you have, the more likely you are to innovate. You ll see in this book why this mentality might work for a basic researcher like Pauling but not for a corporation that needs to consistently meet growth targets. A lot of companies are good at coming up with new ideas, but few know how to vet them wisely, develop them efficaciously, and commercialize them profitably. 

Currently, the team organization—with more than 100 people in global business development—has a new growth target to add 3 billion of revenue growth year-over-year. For the past 15 years, P G has introduced 60 percent of the top-selling new products in consumer products, according to SymphonyIRI research (see Table 2.3).

The ideal plant growth regulator should leave no harmful persistent residue in a finished product or crop and the paradigm compounds are ones that have high specific activity, are target specific, and are environmentally biodegradable.
