Most primary Inclusion Project pupils also went horse-riding, and swimming at Princess Margaret School (which was stiU open at this time), in school time. This was causing a certain amount of controversy in all the schools because of the amount of whole-class work that was being missed as a result (and, at Heather Grove Primary, because some of the other children felt it was unfair that Inclusion Project pupils should be able to ride when they couldn t). 

Envy by other Heather Grove Primary children of Caroline s horse-riding in school time has already been mentioned in the context of out-of-class activities. It is another, small, example of wbat could be seen as privileged treatmenL as opposed to treatment strictly... 

Finally, there were aspects of classroom life or ethos that were subtle contributors to the process of social inclusion and could be built on elsewhere, for example, making the classteacherthe first point of contactforparents, rather than thelnclusionProjectteacher-co-ordinator. This happened only at Heather Grove Primary, where Caroline s mother already knew the school staff well because they were part of her local community.
