The Amazon shelf nutrient budgets for Si, P, and N are shown in Fig. 17.3 and Table 17.2. Subsurface structure predominates at depths of 50 to 1000 pm. This region is susceptible to gross deformation and is affected by the bulk properties of the material. Spalling failure typically occurs in this region.
