The enantiomerically pure chloromethyl complexes (-)-(/ )-9 and ( + )-(S)-9 (shown below as 10) can be converted to iron-alkyl complexes by treatment with sodium borohydride, Grignard reagents, or alkyllithium species, with no loss of enantiomeric purity16,17 (see also Houben-Weyl, Vol. 13/9 a, p 193). 

Of greater potential practical significance, however, are the note193 and full papers194,195 in which Fabre, Julia and Verpeaux describe a new stereoselective synthesis of trisubstituted alkenes in which vinyl sulphones are attacked by Grignard reagents in the presence of iron or nickel catalysts (equations 82-84). 

Due to the efficiency with which the iron catalysts activate the C-Cl bond, several functional groups are tolerated that normally would react with a Grignard reagent.

Structural types for organometallic rhodium and iridium porphyrins mostly comprise five- or six-coordinate complexes (Por)M(R) or (Por)M(R)(L), where R is a (T-bonded alkyl, aryl, or other organic fragment, and Lisa neutral donor. Most examples contain rhodium, and the chemistry of the corresponding iridium porphyrins is much more scarce. The classical methods of preparation of these complexes involves either reaction of Rh(III) halides Rh(Por)X with organolithium or Grignard reagents, or reaction of Rh(I) anions [Rh(Por)] with alkyl or aryl halides. In this sense the chemistry parallels that of iron and cobalt porphyrins.
