Grid system operator

Forsmark 1 nuclear power plant was working normally at fuU power on July 25, 2006. Routine maintenance was being carried out in the 400kV switchyard, outside the plant. The work was being done by the grid system operator, Svenska Kraftnat,... [Pg.31]

In the SCR process, ammonia, usually diluted with air or steam, is injected through a grid system into the flue/exhaust stream upstream of a catalyst bed (37). The effectiveness of the SCR process is also dependent on the NH to NO ratio. The ammonia injection rate and distribution must be controlled to yield an approximately 1 1 molar ratio. At a given temperature and space velocity, as the molar ratio increases to approximately 1 1, the NO reduction increases. At operations above 1 1, however, the amount of ammonia passing through the system increases (38). This ammonia sHp can be caused by catalyst deterioration, by poor velocity distribution, or inhomogeneous ammonia distribution in the bed. [Pg.511]

An electric power substation is a facility that provides a junction between parts of the power grid. The substation s functions, critical for the proper operation of the power system, include the interconnection of power lines from different parts of the system the monitoring and control of system operating conditions and the protection of the power system equipment. [Pg.428]

Most turbines are designed to rotate at a constant speed over a specific range of wind speed conditions. The generators in these turbines produce electricity compatible with the established grid system into which electricity is fed. Operating the turbine at variable rotor speeds increases the range of wind speeds over which the turbine operates. The amount of energy produced annually is increased as well. However, sophisticated power electronics is required to convert the electricity to the gi id standard frequency. [Pg.1192]

Generators for use with the prime movers previously described will almost invariably operate in conjunction with an alternating current electrical system. Such a.c. generators will operate either in parallel with other sources of supply (i.e. a grid system or other generators) or in isolation providing the whole electrical supply to an installation. A.C. generators can be one of the two main types ... [Pg.205]

As mentioned, the primary motivation for the PEFC development was the anticipated applicability in transportation. However, the economics of stationary use are more forgiving, and commercialization of the technology will likely begin as grid-independent power supphes. Figure 24-51 shows a 5-kW PEFC system operating on natural gas. [Pg.48]

In a climate where intermittent power sources from wind, wave and tide are being built, power storage will be important to the economics of grid systems. The enforced intermittent operation of nominally base... [Pg.50]

In normal conditions of operation, therefore, a nuclear power reactor system can respond to the requirements of the electrical power grid system, and the rate at which power can be increased will be dictated by the mechanical limits of the components, rather than by the reactor physics of the core. However, all reactors have systems by which shutdown rods can be—and in many cases are— automatically forced into the core to avoid circumstances that could endanger the plant ( Scram —said to have been formed from the term Safety Control Rod Axe Man at the first man-made reactor, Stagg Field, Chicago). [Pg.3]

ABIMED developed the Auto-Spot Robot ASP 222 to automate only the distribution of activated amino acids onto the derivatized cellulose membrane in a defined grid. Bulk operations such as deprotection and washings are still carried out manually. Predissolved solutions of Fmoc-amino acids and activator are incorporated and must be prepared immediately prior to use. The membranes contain 400 peptide spots and fit directly into the system. [Pg.296]
