Greases thermal properties

Riteflex elastomeric products combine toughness, tear and flexural fatigue resistance with the ability to perform over a wide temperature range of -40 to 121°C. Their chemical relationship to the other members of Ticona s polyester family [8] not only provides Riteflex elastomers with their thermal properties, but also imparts an excellent chemical resistance to common solvents, oils, greases, and dilute acids and bases. Riteflex polyester elastomers are available as unreinforced polymers in a wide range of Shore D hardnesses. 

Thermal conditions have a profound influence on the properties and performance of grease. And any one or more of several phenomena can occur consecutively or, even more likely, simultaneously (ASTM D-3336, ASTM D-3337, ASTM D-3527). Generally, grease having the least evaporative losses (ASTM D-972, ASTM D-2595) will probably perform longer in high-temperature service. 

Oils and greases provide a relatively simple means of lubrication in spacecraft applications. They can give low torque variation and good thermal transfer properties when correctly specified. There are some fundamental problems with operation in vacuum and zero gravity, however, which should always be borne in mind.
