Elastomers Riteflex

Noncrystalline aromatic polycarbonates (qv) and polyesters (polyarylates) and alloys of polycarbonate with other thermoplastics are considered elsewhere, as are aHphatic polyesters derived from natural or biological sources such as poly(3-hydroxybutyrate), poly(glycoHde), or poly(lactide) these, too, are separately covered (see Polymers, environmentally degradable Sutures). Thermoplastic elastomers derived from poly(ester—ether) block copolymers such as PBT/PTMEG-T [82662-36-0] and known by commercial names such as Hytrel and Riteflex are included here in the section on poly(butylene terephthalate). Specific polymers are dealt with largely in order of volume, which puts PET first by virtue of its enormous market volume in bottie resin.

Riteflex elastomeric products combine toughness, tear and flexural fatigue resistance with the ability to perform over a wide temperature range of -40 to 121°C. Their chemical relationship to the other members of Ticona s polyester family [8] not only provides Riteflex elastomers with their thermal properties, but also imparts an excellent chemical resistance to common solvents, oils, greases, and dilute acids and bases. Riteflex polyester elastomers are available as unreinforced polymers in a wide range of Shore D hardnesses. 

The range of properties available from Riteflex elastomers is reflected in the diversity of applications, in which these versatile materials have been used, e.g., hoses, tubing, seals, gaskets, belts, pump diaphragms, wire coatings, hooks, fasteners, films, sheets, non-wovens and monofilaments, to name some of the more outstanding.
