Graphite segment

The coincidence of substrate and adsorbate symmetries is crucial for the ordering, i.e., for the formation of 2D crystals. Additionally, the HBC 22 molecule, which itself resembles a graphite segment, is oriented along the HOPG lattice in the same way as an (second) imposed graphite layer.230 This concludes that the substrate rules the orientation of the molecules. Ordered monolayers of HBC could also be used as a ground floor for deposition of a second layer... [Pg.21]

The carbon fibers present a filamentary shape with a diameter of few tens of nanometers (nanofibers) to few tens of micrometers. The structure is that of short graphitic segments. The preferred orientation of the graphitic planes is parallel to the fiber axis. The morphology can be radial, cross-sectional, or circumferential [25]. The carbon fibers present excellent mechanical and thermal properties. The carbon fibers are produced by two ways [26] ... [Pg.396]

A classic definition of electrochemical ultracapacitors or supercapacitors summarizes them as devices, which store electrical energy via charge in the electrical double layer, mainly by electrostatic forces, without phase transformation in the electrode materials. Most commercially available capacitors consist of two high surface area carbon electrodes with graphitic or soot-like material as electrical conductivity enhancement additives. Chapter 1 of this volume contains seven papers with overview presentations, and development reports, as related to new carbon materials for this emerging segment of the energy market. [Pg.26]
