Graphite density

Higher pressures p favor structures that occupy a lower volume, i.e. that have a higher density. As their formation involves a decrease in the volume (negative AV), AH will attain a negative value. For instance, diamond (density 3.51 gem-3) is more stable than graphite (density 2.26 g cm-3) at very high pressures. [Pg.30]

Element 6. Atomic wt. 12.011. Found in nature as diamond (density 3.52), as graphite (density 2.25), and as coal. Diamond burns in oxygen, coal in oir. [Pg.77]

Wang and Ho have performed extensive TBMD simulations to study the structure and properties of amorphous carbon (a-C) over a wide range of densities [60-63], The simulations showed that a-C samples produced under different densities (i.e., under different compressive stresses) have very different structures. The general trend is that the sp bonding concentration increases when the a-C sample is generated under higher densities. Near the graphitic density (2.27 g/cm ), a-C is dominated by threefold atoms. Diamond-like yp -dominated a-C structures can be... [Pg.674]

The graphite density was taken to be 1.63. Table 2 gives the disadvantage factors in the same way. [Pg.493]
