Granule properties hardness

A specific example of granulation properties in the combination vacuum/micro-wave technology versus forced air drying is reviewed in Ref. 38. The article describes the influence of these drying methods on attributes such as specific surface area, porosity, friability, hardness and morphology.

Outputs y are the variables of interest for the designer, operator, or manager. They might be quality variables that are related to granule properties such as size distribution, granule moisture, or granule hardness. Other outputs of interest could be related to product temperature, flowrates, and composition. The outputs are necessarily measurable in some way, either directly on-line such as PSD or moisture, or via laboratory analysis such as composition.

Compression force/hardness profile The compression/hardness profile of a granule batch is an important property. Different subunits of two formulations were selected and compressed using different compression forces in order to obtain tablets. The tablets were tested for hardness as a function of different subrmit numbers (Figs. 11,12). From experience, it is well known that certain formulations show an excellent compression profile as small batches but do not keep this property on the batch size increasing. This is another advantage of the quasi-continuous production concept as, in principle, the quality of the small batch is not changed by the repetitive procedure.
