Granular synthesis control

The sequential approach to granular synthesis works by synthesising sequential grain streams. The length of the grains and the intervals between them are controllable, but the grains must not overlap (Figure 5.3). [Pg.103]

On the accompanying CD-ROM (in the folder chaosynth), there is a demonstration version of Chaosynth, a sequential granular synthesis program for Macintosh and Windows. An introduction to Chaosynth is given in Chapter 8. In this section we will study the mechanism used to control its parameters. [Pg.108]

Figure 8.22 Most granular synthesis systems use stochastic methods to control the production of the sonic particles, but Chaosynth uses cellular automata. The state of the cellular automata is defined by the values of the variables at each cell. As implemented on a computer, the cells are represented as a grid of tiny rectangles whose values are indicated by different colours... In addition to synthesis, the release of hormones from the storage compartment in cells also controls the amount of hormones in circulation. Reserpine and amphetamine are examples of compounds that affect hormone storage in granular vesicles. Compounds that activate LH receptors could potentially cause hypersecretion of testosterone from the Leydig cells (site of testosterone synthesis in the testes). On the other hand, direct cell injury of secretory cells may cause hyposecretion. [Pg.983]

The formation of ceramic membranes for microfiltration, ultrafiltration or nanofiltration by association of various granular layers is now a common procedure [10]. Each layer is characterized by its thickness, h, its porosity, 8, and its mean pore diameter, dp. These parameters are controlled by the particle size, d, and the synthesis method. Each layer induces a resistance which may be predicted through the classical Carman-Kozeny model ... [Pg.575]

Preparation of Materials with Special Functions. The porosity not only defines the adsorption parameters of a material, but also its mechanical stability. On the basis of this idea and the hydrolysis and condensation kinetics and its effect on microstructure, an abrasive powder was developed (12-13) with an abrasion-controlling mechanism for human skin. The investigation of the synthesis parameter shows a direct connection between the composition and the mechanical properties of the granular material (Figure 6). As expected from the previous experiments, HCl had to be used to provide reproducible CH3 concentrations and well-defined, reproducible material properties. [Pg.413]

The hydrothermal synthesis of ferroelectric nanoparticles like BaTiOs is an industrial concern. This method is a powerful tool for fabricating ultrafine, homogeneous powders of high purity for a large variety of multi-cation oxides [73] as compared to methods based on the decomposition of solid precursors. The main advantage of hydrothermal synthesis is the improved control of the chemical and granular... [Pg.307]
