Thymeleaceae (Figure 9.3). The second ordinate axis identified a gradient with western Amazonian plots weighted negatively and central Amazonian plots positively plots from Chiquitania and the Gran Chaco clustered around the intercept of the two axes.

Next, the DCA and CCA were applied to a subset that included all of the plots from Chiquitania and specific plots from Amazon ecotone that had been identified as being the most similar to the Chiquitania plots (e.g. select plots from the nkm series) or which were geographically situated so as to indicate that they should be transitional in nature (e.g. cho series). Plots situated to the south in the Gran Chaco (gto series and tucavaca) were excluded so as to discriminate the gradients on the northern ecotone better (Figure 9.5). The DCA analyses confirmed the previously observed...
