Grain size distribution curve

Slot sizes of the screens are chosen to maximize well yield so that reliable water samples and water-level drawdown data can be collected during specific-capacity and other field tests. To accomplish this, sieve analyses can be performed on split-spoon samples from the interval to be monitored. A grain-size distribution curve can be field plotted and analyzed to establish the screen slot size and the size of the gravel pack. For wells installed in competent bedrock, it may be wisest not to install a screen but to leave the hole open for maximum yield. In these cases, a surface casing is installed to prevent the collapse of the unconsolidated sediments and possible downward migration of contaminants. [Pg.165]

Rocks show a distribution of grain sizes. This is described by a cumulative distribution curve (grain size distribution curve). Figure 1.5 gives an example. From the grain size distribution, various statistical measures or parameters can be derived using defined percentiles referred to as the cumulative weight percent (wt.%) ... [Pg.8]

Illston [134] found a good relation between the maximum continuous pore radius, measured with mercury porosimeter and permeability (Fig. 5.61). The maximum continuous pores radius is defined as a pore size at which the maximum on the pore distribution curve occurs (see Fig. 5.27). This maximum radius of continuous pore system decreases with the time of hydration, as a space between cement grains is filled with hydration products. The term continuous pores was firstly used by Winslow and Diamond [135] they attributed it to the maximum on the pores size distribution curve, as it could be derived from the flow of mercuiy through the main, continuous pore chaimels. However below the peak mercuiy is intmding only to the local pore channels [135]. Mehta and Manmohan [136] are considering... [Pg.352]

Figure 1 is about curve on grain size distribution analysis of two sets of sandy silt and Figure 2 is about curve on grain size distribution analysis of two sets of silty-fine sand. From the two figures, it can be seen that sandy silt and silty-fine sand are of uniform. [Pg.494]

Analysis of relaxation curves from fluids is of particular interest for the characterization of pores in rocks [Dav 1, Fori, Kle 1 ] and other porous materials such as packs of beads or grains, ceramics, zeolites, foods, colloids, emulsions, gels, suspensions, and is of interest to the retrieval of biochemical and biophysical information [Labi]. Because longitudinal and transverse relaxation rates can be significantly increased in the vicinity of solid-liquid interfaces, the relaxation behaviour of H and other nuclei of fluids confined in porous media can provide important information about porosity, pore-size distribution, and pore connectivity [Hiirl, Kiel, Kle2]. [Pg.261]
