Conclusion. We have successfully prepared a well-defined carborane loaded polymer with high M , (M > 15 kDa) using NMP. In our group we have mainly focused on the preparation of comb polymers by the grafting-onto approach. It is based on the preparation as reactive backbone of poly (chloroethyl vinyl ether) (PCEVE) with various architectures ranging from linear, star, hyperbranched, to cyclic. PCEVE is used for grafting living anionic chains, typically... 

Stars constituted of monomer units bearing reactive functions, prepared by these different strategies have been used as precursor for the construction of the corresponding comb star polymers. As explained in the previous section, different methodologies can be used branches can be introduced on the star backbone by either grafting-from or grafting-onto approaches. 

The grafting onto approach has become a more efficient method for the preparation of graft copolymers with the rise of various dick chemistries and has been used for the preparation of well-defined star molecules, loosely grafted copolymers, and, as noted in the following section, densely grafted stmaures (Scheme 21). ... 

While grafting from is an efficient method of tethering quatemizable polymers to a substrate, a more convenient approach for existing household equipment, and even hospital use, would be a consumer-friendly grafting onto approach such as spraying a solution of a reactive copolymer onto a surface.

The comparison of high-resolution mass spectra of poly-6-MOEG-9-TM-BF3k obtained by the grafting onto approach with those obtained with its macromolecular precursor poly-6-PO-BF3k (Fig. 44) revealed the existence of differences in the composition of the macromolecular mixtures.
