PMMA is handicapped by a low impact resistance, limited heat behaviour (except for the acrylic imides), inherent flammability, sensitivity to environmental stress cracking in the presence of certain chemicals, chemical attack by certain current solvents. For some grades, processing can be more difficult than for some other current thermoplastics. [Pg.427]

The fire detection grading approach is a coarse hazard assessment, which documents the credible fire hazards and defines and establishes acceptable fire detection performance requirements. The fire detection performance requirements are defined by determining what size of fire presents a credible escalation hazard. The systematic application ofthe grading process then develops an engineered detection system whose performance can be verified. The general process utilized to develop the detection layout is as follows ... [Pg.250]

Where the need for fire detection is identified, the required performance of the fire detection system is already specified as part of the grading process. Fixed fire detection is typically installed to protect equipment that is high value, long lead time, or likely to be significant fire escalation hazards. The performance specification defines fire size and response time thresholds for alarm and action(s). Fire hazards are defined by radiant heat output (RHO). RHO gives a reasonable indication of the potential damage and the probability that the fire will escalate or cause loss. The RHO should not be used to determine fire thermal loading onto equipment and structures. Table 8-3 compares RHO and flame area for some typical hydrocarbon fires. [Pg.251]

Silver is widely distributed throughout the world. It rarely occurs in native form, but is found in ore bodies as silver chloride, or more frequently, as simple and complex sulfides. In former years, simple silver and gold-silver ores were processed by amalgamation or cyanidation processes, The availability of ores amenable to treatment by these means has declined. Most silver is now obtained as a byproduct or coproduct from base metal ores, particularly those of copper, lead, and zinc. Although these ores are different in mineral complexity and grade, processing is similar. [Pg.1482]

Abrasive milling removes the outer bran layer to produce partially polished rice or, after polishing to remove the entire bran layer, white rice. Rice bran or polish may be subsequently stabilized by heat treatment to inactivate lipases. Stabilized rice bran has found use as an ingredient in human-grade processed foods. [Pg.571]

If not specified, the fiow ratio of methane to argon for the graded process scheme is 1.5/1.0. FRP was the substrate used. [Pg.457]

Elecrocopper was plated onto the composition graded film layered by the double-graded process with oxygen and hydrogen treatment. [Pg.460]

Furthermore, the monograph gives a definition of the terms active substance and excipients it explains the policy of the Commission concerning polymorphic forms, active substances of special grade, processing of active substances with and without the addition of excipients, and the two sets of identification tests that may be contained in a monograph. [Pg.2834]

That upper oil is relatively light (>30° API) and contains 2-3% sulphur whereas the lower oil is heavy (<2° API) and enriched in sulphur (4-6%). Fig. 10. GC-MS analyses that show the selective enrichment of dibenzothiophene compounds in the light oils (Fig. 15). While this does not fully account for the sulphur mass balance discrepancy, it does account for a significant portion. The most important aspect of this non-hydrocarbon investigation remains the documentation that the compositional grading process profoundly affects the organic sulphur compound signature in terms of both isomer distributions and absolute quantitative abundance. [Pg.216]

Novolac resins are produced commercially from cresol mixtures that contain amounts of m-cresol and p-cresol isomers in varying proportions, depending on the specific application. The reaction proceeds with both metal cation and acid catalysis (Scheme 1.1) Because of strict guidelines for metallic contaminants in semiconductor grade process materials and chemicals, acid catalysis is employed in the synthesis of novolacs used in photoresist applications. In a typical commercial production process, a mixture of m- and p-cresol isomers, formaldehyde (most often in the form of formalin, a 35-40% aqueous solution of formaldehyde) and an oxalic acid catalyst are reacted, following the description of Pampalone ... [Pg.303]
