Thus, G (as the gossypol acetate complex) was fed to neonate H. virescens larvae at concentrations ranging from 0-250 mg/200 mL diet fn 2 5 mg increments (0-1.25 mg/mL in 0.125 mg increments). One hundred larvae were grown at each dosage for seven days. The experiment was repeated. 

In mice orally administered 60 or 120 mg/kg of gossypol acetic acid daily on days 6 to 13 of pregnancy, an increase in fetal resorptions and late fetal deaths was observed (Li et al. 1989). 

In mice orally administered 50 or 75 mg/kg of gossypol acetic acid daily on days 1 to 15 of pregnancy, a dose-depen-dent embryotoxic effect was observed. No abnormalities were observed in surviving fetuses (Sein 1986). 

Gossypol acetic acid (10" M) at 60 min induced extensive swelling of explanted adult rabbit tracheal ciliary cell mitochondria (Duckett et al. 1986). Cristae were greatly altered and mitochondrial matrix appeared to be almost entirely washed out. In many cases the mitochondria were distorted, with no evidence of their original filamentous nature remaining.
