Skiving is a variant in which the base metal surface oxides are mechanically removed foUowed immediately by pressure rolling of a precious metal or alloy strip. This is commonly used for inlays for electrical contacts and for jewelry fabrication. The common inlay materials include gold, silver, copper, brass, and solder. No heat is needed, and the coating is appHed only to designated areas so there is Htde waste (3,50). 

More recent developments in the rolling ball area include an automated micro viscometer, the Paar AMV 200, from Paar Physica. The specimen to be measured is introduced into a glass capillary down which a gold-covered steel ball roUs. The rolling time is measured automatically. Gold is the most ductile element. An amount of 1 g of gold can be stretched into a 24-km-long fine wire (actually, a thread). It can also be rolled (or beaten) into 100-nm-thick gold leaf. It then looks blue green in color, and red when light is shone through it. 

Se is concentrated in certain ore deposits, such as roll-front U complexes and Carlin-type gold deposits. Roll-front U deposits occur where U(Vl)-bearing groundwater migrates into reducing zones which precipitate both U(TV) and Se(0) or Se(-II). It may be possible to constrain Se sources and/or ore-forming processes using Se isotope variations. 

Silver is a soft, while, lustrous metal that can be worked by pounding, drawing through a die, rolling, and so forth. It is only slightly harder than gold. It is insoluble in water, but...
