Gold nanoparticles self-assembled monolayers

Gold electrodes coated by nanostructured self-assembled monolayer of TMPP and Cl2 are used as template for in situ synthesis of metallic nanoparticles (Figure 2). 

Some miscellaneous examples of QD synthesis using surfactant systems are described below. A layer-by-layer [206] structure of dithiol self-assembled monolayers (SAM) and CdS mono- and multilayer nanoparticles were fabricated on a gold substrate covered with alkanedithiol. SAMs were formed by an alternate immersion of the substrate into ethanolic solutions of dithiol, and dispersion of CdS nanoparticles (ca. 3nm in diameter), the latter of which was prepared in A0T/H20/heptane w/o microemulsions.

Chemically prepared colloidal gold nanoparticles were immobilized as a submonolayer on Au(lll) surface modified with self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of 4-aminothiophenol [14]. This submonolayer of Au nanoparticles was subsequently characterized using STM.

Ferrocene-functionalized dendrimers and gold nanoparticles, for instance, have been found to exhibit significantly enhanced binding of anions. Self-assembled monolayers of organometallic receptors on electrode surfaces similarly exhibit amplified anion binding. Organometallic dendrimers have also been used in SO2 gas detection.
