Goal-seeking behavior

The limitless capacity of the human cortex to fix ICRs and acquire drives -in conjunction with the development of language - made possible an unmatched interpersonal communication. This unique facility made the cognitive/volitional and affective states of consciousness of the human brain and, as a consequence of it, human social life, unparalleled. Because of the lack of similar developments in animals, there is no way to obtain direct evidence about the nature of their psychic experiences. Nevertheless, observation of the goal-seeking behavior of properly trained monkeys, dogs, horses, and so on furnishes convincing indirect evidence for the assumption that the operation of ICRs and acquired drives even in animals is inseparable from an archetype of consciousness. [Pg.129]

The goals of treatment are cessation of use of the drug, termination of associated drug-seeking behaviors, and return to normal functioning. The... [Pg.842]

The long-term observation of the behavior of glass-cylinder-seeking rats convinced us that even a rat influenced by an acquired drive must be subject of a kind of psychic experience inseparable from emotions. This accords well with common experiences regarding the behavior of domesticated animals. We found convincing experimental evidence in support of this reasoning in a study by Phillips et al. (2003) on a peculiar form of goal-directed behavior performed by rats. [Pg.114]

This equation can conveniendy be solved for for any specified value of using the formula for solution of quadratic equations, or by using Goal Seek or Solver in a spreadsheet. Note that the effective equilibrium parameter in Eq. 118-431 is (K g Crj/Ct). Since the total concentration in the fluid can easily be changed, this effective equilibrium parameter can be changed. This behavior is illustrated in Exanple 18-8 and Figure 18-19. [Pg.849]

There is no more important product of higher education than graduates able to think and able to seek and find the truth. There is nothing more important to think about and discuss the truth about than our impacts on the chemistry of our Planet and the consequence of these impacts. Responsible environmental behavior ought to be one of the primary goals of general education. [Pg.477]
